The first and second rounds of the 2023 World Amateur Chess Championship, Muscat, witnessed strong and exciting competitions between players in a major challenge in three categories, namely the 1700 category, the 2000 category, and the 2300 category. In the under 1700 category for women, Omani Kawthar Al Maamria tied with Indian Briyash, Omani Al Anoud Al Ghafria tied with Sudanese Nahla Mohammed, Indian Shaibi won over Emirati Noura Al Khoury, and Mongolian Anudari won over Bahraini Maram Al Musawi. As well as the victory of Mongolian Naranbuad over Bahrain’s Sondos Obaid.
In the men’s under 1,700 category, the national team player, Saeed Ahmed, achieved an important victory over the Qatari Ahmed Saif, and the national team player, Khaled Al-Hatemi, was able to win over the Kuwaiti Faisal Al-Ghanem, and the Omani Fouad Al-Ghanami tied with the Sudanese Hussein Siddiq, and the Omani Abdul Rahman Al-Yahmadi tied with the German Andreas, while the winner Indian Deepak on Chinese Yuan.
