The first and second rounds of the 2023 World Amateur Chess Championship, Muscat, witnessed strong and exciting competitions between players in a major challenge in three categories, namely the 1700 category, the 2000 category, and the 2300 category. In the under 1700 category for women, Omani Kawthar Al Maamria tied with Indian Briyash, Omani Al Anoud Al Ghafria tied with Sudanese Nahla Mohammed, Indian Shaibi won over Emirati Noura Al Khoury, and Mongolian Anudari won over Bahraini Maram Al Musawi.
