The launch ceremony of World Amateur Chess Championship 2023

The 2023 World Amateur Chess Championship, organized by the Omani Chess Committee in cooperation with the International Federation of the Game, continues at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bawshar, during the period from November 2 to 11.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of his Excellency Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, who stressed the importance of the Sultanate of Oman hosting the World Amateur Chess Championship to stimulate the economic and tourism aspects.He said while sponsoring the launch of the first move of the tournament competitions:

 

Hosting the tournament is an important aspect of tourism promotion. In extent, whether on the part of the participating players who may later think about visiting the country with their family, or the important promotion achieved through the direct transmission of chess matches through the channels of the International Federation of the game or through other social media channels. As the game of chess receives great attention from the participating, countries have good popularity, so it is an opportunity for these followers to get to know the Sultanate of Oman, and in this context, the tournament also has an important role in getting to know the aesthetics of the capital, Muscat, and the tourism components and cultural and developmental achievements.

It abounds in, adding that hosting such tournaments is also important for revitalizing the economic aspects. Related in terms of hotel room occupancy and activating purchasing power associated with participants’ shopping during the tournament.

He added: The participation of more than 420 male and female players from 64 countries confirms the status of the Sultanate of Oman and its good reputation among the countries of the world, and as we heard from representatives of the International Federation, the tournament was able to break the barriers of previous numbers in terms of the number of participating countries and players. Muscat Championship is considered the largest in number. The number of participants in previous tournaments did not exceed 200 players, and this is an important aspect for all of us, praising the great effort made by the Omani Chess Committee in this aspect, hoping to continue this superiority and to always be the best.
